The Parish Council has continued working on the parish’s Pastoral Plan over this past year. A Pastoral Plan is similar to a strategic growth plan. Looking at our history, current statistics, and growth potential, a parish plan set attainable, measurable goals by which we set a course for the whole parish family. I am always looking for parishioners to serve on the Parish Council to help in this most important work.
In terms of “looking for help,” I would ask you to consider your life in terms of stewardship. A disciple of Christ is first a good steward, contributing the first fruits of their time, talent, and treasure to their parish community. The health event of 2020 caused many people to step back from their involvement in the life of the parish. Now is a great time to consider where you are giving your time and talent. I hear from almost all our ministry leaders that they have no success in recruiting volunteers. This is not only at Holy Cross, but throughout Catholic and non-Catholic churches and communities. A good steward doesn’t give of their free time but makes their involvement a consistent part of their schedule. While the reality is that 90% of the work is done by 10% of folks, we should all look for areas of parish life to plug into.
This summer, we will have two seminarians at Holy Cross: Kolbe Murrey and Michael Lugo. Kolbe’s home parish is St. John the Baptist in Tryon, NC, and he is studying theology at Mount Saint Mary Seminary in Cincinnati, OH. Michael’s home parish is Immaculate Conception in Forest City, NC. He just graduated from Belmont Abbey College and completed his formation at St. Joseph College Seminary. He will be entering theology studies and continue his priestly formation at Mount Saint Mary in Cincinnati. Their assignment will begin on June 7 and run through August 7.
