Throughout my time in seminary and as a priest, I have been assigned to a number of parishes throughout our diocese. While every parish is established for the same reason (teach, govern, and sanctify the lives of the faithful), each one was a little different in how it carried out those tasks that Christ entrusted to his Church. In order to carry out the Church’s mission to bring all peoples to knowledge of the Truth and salvation in Christ, each pastor at each of those parishes had to constantly evaluate the effectiveness of his staff, leaders, commissions, and the like.
Over the past month, I have been considering the future of our Education and Formation Office. Ordinarily, parishes have a director of religious education and a youth minister. However, it seems to me that our parish has the potential to do more than what is ordinary. Formation in the faith is not just for our children and converts. It must be forward facing and respond to the many and diverse needs of our families. We can’t simply enroll children in Sunday school; we must seek to embrace the entire family and draw them deeper into Jesus’ saving love. Our unique parish, therefore, will break the mold.
Effective July 1, Denys Davis will be the new Coordinator of Family and Youth Evangelization, while Juana Mayra Jasinto Cruz will be the new Coordinator of Elementary and Hispanic Formation. Both of these dynamic women have shown over the years their dedication to our families and passion for ministry among our parish community. Denys will continue to be responsible for our Young Adult Ministry, Youth Ministry, and Confirmation preparation. She will now also take on the responsibility of overseeing our RCIA teams and programming for adult faith formation. Juana Mayra will continue in her role coordinating Spanish-language faith formation at all levels and is assuming responsibility of the 9:30am faith formation program.
To support these new roles, I have created two new positions in our Education and Formation Office. We are currently seeking a full-time Safe Environment Coordinator and a part-time Faith Formation Program Specialist. The Safe Environment Coordinator will be responsible for the maintenance of the parish’s compliance with diocesan policies that creates a safe place for our families, as well as maintaining the faith formation record and files. The Program Specialist will be direct, hands-on support for our Education and Formation programs. If you or someone you know is interested, please see the full job postings on CatholicJobs.com.
